Sonja provides Podiatry and Chiropody services at the Abbey Clinic. She graduated from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff with a 1st class class BSc (Hons) Podiatry degree and initially worked in the NHS in South Wales before moving into private practice to specialise in the field of musculoskeletal biomechanics. She completed her MSc at St Mary’s University, Twickenham where she subsequently became a lecturer on both the undergraduate and postgraduate sport rehabilitation degree programmes.
Sonja has a special interest in sports injury rehabilitation and was a proud member of the London 2012 Olympics Medical Team, based in the Athlete’s Village where she provided podiatric treatment to athletes from all nations and sporting disciplines.
Sonja originally trained as a professional dancer, graduating with a Bachelor of Performing Arts (Dance) degree from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in 1998. This has made her particularly passionate about dance injury rehabilitation and she has undertaken research with some of the UK’s leading dance companies including Rambert Dance Company. Her research has been published in the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association and she continues to be active in the research arena, and most recently contributed to an article in The Independent. Sonja is also a registered practitioner on the One Dance UK Medical Practitioners Directory.
