Shockwave Therapy

Effective treatment for chronic soft tissue injuries

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy, also known as Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT), is a clinically proven and highly effective treatment for chronic soft tissue injuries and certain bone conditions.

Extracocorporeal Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that works by sending non-electrical high energy sound waves through the body via a hand-held probe. This results in a rapid increase in blood circulation to the targeted area and helps to break down scar tissue which builds up over time, especially with chronic conditions.  It also works by stimulating cell regeneration and promoting normal healing with a significant reduction in pain.

What does Shockwave Therapy treat?

Research has shown shockwave therapy to be an effective treatment of soft tissue injuries, pain and certain bony conditions like heel spurs.

Conditions we treat:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Shoulder pain eg tendon calcification
  • Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow)
  • Medial epicondylitis (golfer’s elbow)
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Patellar tendinopathy (jumper’s knee)
  • Tibial stress syndrome (shin pain)
  • Hip pain eg ITB syndrome and tendinopathies

What can I expect during my consultation?

During your first visit, you will be seen by one of our Physiotherapists for a 45 minute assessment where they will be able to decide if your symptoms and condition are appropriate for shockwave therapy.

If shockwave treatment is deemed appropriate then you will be booked in for a treatment package of 3 sessions at a cost of £285.The first session will be incorporated into the assessment.  If you require further treatments beyond this then these can be booked individually and last 15 minutes. If Shock wave is not appropriate then the assessment will be priced as a physio assessment £64.

There are no known side effects to shockwave therapy. Most patients report experiencing a reduction in their pain. Occasionally, a mild diffuse pain can be experienced within a few hours of treatment and can last a short period of time.  Most benefits are gained when shockwave treatment is carried out in conjunction with your normal manual and exercise therapy.

Julia's extensive knowledge and understanding of the body make her an intuitive and highly effective practitioner.
